At Home with The Marshalls
January 24 was a rather chilly day. So there were no complaints from me about having an indoor shoot.
<<especially when that indoor shoot centered around one brand new, handsome little man>>
The Marshalls ((Justin + Jennifer)) welcomed me into their lovely home
to capture images of their sweet baby boy ((Owen)).
When I arrived, Owen was snoozing away in his daddy's arms. Being that he's just a grunt past the newborn stage, we took that opportunity to get those dreamy, sleepy headed images. We moved about his room, in whispers, getting to know one another while I drooled over his adorable nautical themed nursery. I managed to grab a few sleepy poses and some detail shots of those tiny hands and feet before Mr. Owen opened those perfect blue eyes.
I remember my first photo shoot with Lucas ((as a family)). My dear friend Julie White of Julia White Photography captured some very special images that I will always cherish. But I also remember being a sweaty, hot mess.
Lucas was asleep, then wide awake; dry, then wet; eating, then spitting up; content, then crying;
The list goes on. I was beyond flustered and I'm sure it showed.
I would bet that almost everyone has a similar experience with baby's first photo shoot. As a photographer, I was so very pleased with how Jennifer and Justin handled themselves when we entered that portion of their photo shoot. I gave them a few soft reminders that we were in no rush, and to just go with the flow. If Owen is hungry, feed him. If he needs to be changed, change him. We have plenty of time.
Now, if I had told myself this... I'm sure I STILL would have been a sweaty, hot mess. But not Jennifer and Justin. They were very relaxed, tended to Owen's needs, and we carried on with the shoot. There were a few more "bumps" that required some mommy + daddy soothing techniques, but this parenting team knew just what to do. We had to give up on a pose or two that Owen just wasn't feeling, but as they moved about their home, we captured some sweet memories that I hope they will always cherish.
Luckily, the Marshall home was located nearby one of my favorite shoot locations.
Thanks to some midday sunshine, it warmed up just enough to grab a few quick pictures outside. Owen was very intrigued by all that was going on around him ((rustling leaves, the sound of passing cars, sticks on the ground)). I imagine it was a bit of sensory overload for such a little guy, but he certainly seemed to enjoy it!
To the Marshalls-- Thank you for welcoming me into your lovely home.
It was a pleasure to meet you and your little bundle of joy.
